Danish craft beer

With more than 100 breweries and a fine brewing tradition, Denmark is a land of good beer. The following list features a selection of brewery visitors’ centres, brew-restaurants and craft beer bars close to major attractions and in areas of unique interest nationwide.

Visit Carlsberg
Carlsberg’s heritage brew house is where Jacobsen beer is brewed, which is one of Denmark’s most widely available craft-brewed labels. Jacobsen beer is also served at the centre’s restaurant.

Nørrebro BryghusNørrebro Bryghus
The internationally award-winning brewery serves cuisine made with beer in their urban restaurant. Located close to many other popular watering holes, their Ravnsborg Rød label is named after the local street.

Mikkeller Bar
The basement bar is owned by one of the planet’s most renowned creative brewers, Mikkel Borg Bjergsø. On tap is the Danish brewer’s own craft-brewed labels and cask beer from around the world.

Bryggeri Skovlyst
The brew-restaurant is located by a forest just north of Copenhagen and prides itself on brewing beer from local woodland ingredients.

Located in the heart of the old town, Vejle Bryghus pipes craft-brewed beer to local restaurants!

Ribe Bryghus
Available at restaurants throughout the historic town of Ribe, this local label is brewed in the old town itself. The small microbrewery is open to visitors on scheduled days.

C. Wiibroes Bryggeri
The small brewery is located in a heritage museum, Klarergården, in the historic town of Elsinore. The classic label is also available at bars and restaurants across town.

Jelling Bryggeri
A classic microbrewery located in the Jelling community centre close to the town’s UNESCO-listed heritage monuments.

Ebeltoft Gårdbryggeri
The small farm brewery in the Mols Bjerge National Park lets you enjoy their beer with an open view to the fields. Their beer and homemade soft drinks are also available at fine restaurants in the region.

Bøgedal
The small heritage farm brewery is celebrated for its craft-brewed cask beer. Located in the scenic valley of Vejle, its limited edition beer is available from the farm boutique and at fine restaurants across Denmark.

A legendary, all-organic farm north of Copenhagen featuring a well-stocked farm shop. The beer brewed on the farm is also available at speciality stores and some of the nation’s finest restaurants, such as Noma.

Grauballe Bryghus
The small farm brewery located by the marshes close to town of Silkeborg features a brewery shop. Their beer labels have been selected as audience favourites at several beer festivals in Denmark.

Rise Bryggeri
Tours of the local brewery on the island of Ærø can be booked by phone. Available locally on Ærø, their craft-brewed beer is also popular nationwide.

Svaneke Bryghus
Available nationwide, beer from Svaneke Bryghus on the Baltic island of Bornholm is known for its culinary appeal. The brewery and restaurant are located on a farm dating back to the 1750s.

Fanø Bryghus
Open daily to visitors and located on the island of Fanø in the Wadden Sea National Park. Their amber beer, RAV, is brewed with a bitter tang “like the local humour,” according to the label.

Samsø Bryghus
The all-organic brewery on Denmark’s eco-island Samsø serves café lunches made with local produce from the brewery farm. Local herbs, fruit and other natural ingredients are used in the brewing.

Læsø Bryghus
A few hundred metres from the sandy beach and close to the island’s gourmet dining offerings and salt baths, the local island brewery on Læsø is open to the public most days of the week.

Fur Bryghus
Brewed using crystal clear water from deep underground, the local Fur beer pays tribute to the unique natural history of the island. The brewery restaurant is open most days.

Bryghuset Møn
An old farm on the island of Møn is home to a brew-restaurant serving hearty fare. Located a few kilometres from the White Cliffs of Møn.

Copenhagen Beer Festivals

The city’s annual Beer Festival is hosted at the heritage Carlsberg Breweries 10-12 May 2012. Coinciding with this year’s festival is the Copenhagen Beer Celebration, which features gourmet food by leading chefs as well as craft beer by international artisanal brewers.
