Old schooners

Denmark has always been a country of proud seafaring traditions. At several ports and harbours you will find old, well-preserved wooden vessels waiting at the docksides to carry you off on a magical holiday trip.

An old seafaring nation such as you find in Denmark naturally offers abundant possibilities for a chance to go sailing – right from harbour roundtrips to seafaring on reproductions of the old Viking ships in waters such as Roskilde Fjord. There is also the chance to ply the waves on veteran sailing ships – schooners and galliasses from the 19th century. Throughout the summer months, these historic sailing ships ply the waters on holiday cruises with summer visitors – and you can come too.
Whether you are into the thrill of the many races and cups for the old sailing ships, or prefer scenic views and restful hours under the billowing sails, the old sailing ships provide a wonderful setting for a sensational holiday experience.

Life aboard ship
So, what does a holiday on an old sailing ship consist of? The sun reflected off the waves, the savour of your supper from the galley, a hot deck under your feet, the scent of woodlands and fields drifting over the water, star-burst in a clear night sky, a mug of steaming coffee on deck in the early hours, the gentle rocking of the ship as it moves through the waves, the rattle of the anchor chain, sunkissed cheeks after a cloudless day, snuggling up in a warm saloon on a chilly evening, larking about on the quarter deck, a dip in the sea...sheer relaxation.
You don’t need to have any sailing skills at all to come aboard. All the ships are manned by experienced crews who can advise and take the lead in weighing anchor, setting course and tying hitches and knots.
The prices are inclusive of the trip itself, a soft, warm bunk and all meals (excluding drinks). All you have to do is sort out the postcard and stamp for friends back home!
The holiday cruises, often lasting a week, sail throughout Danish waters and even head for neighbouring countries, and the Funen Archipelago and on the Lim Fjord you can even buy a ticket for just a day trip or a couple of hours’ sailing trip. And for groups who want to go on a sailing holiday, Danish Schooner Charter offers you the chance to charter a whole ship and plan your very own seabound adventure. Danish Schooner Charter organises trips throughout Denmark.
