H.C. Andersen's Birthday
Entrance is free all day on Hans Christian Andersens birthday and everybody is welcome to participate in a small ceremony in the memorial hall at 1 pm to 2 pm.
It is a tradition to celebrate the birthday in Hans Christian Andersens house, and during the ceremony the most important event is to award the scholarship "H. C. Andersens Hjælp" to a hard working schoolboy. The scholarship was instituted by the poet himself and has been awarded on this day since 1878.
At the same time the "H. C. Andersen foundation" awards a similar scholarship to a hard working schoolgirl according to the same conditions.
Also part of the tradition is the Hans Christian Andersen Parade and their shows in the garden in front of the museum.
