The legend of the priest and satan

The priest Jens Høstmark Binderup, Assens and Klakring (1796-1824) was out with his horsecarriage one day. Suddenly, the horsecarriage became so heavy, that the horses couldn’t pull it any longer. The priest who had supernatural powers, immediately sensed that satan was sitting on the back right wheel. Therefor, the priest asked the driver to take off the wheel and put it on the wagon. When this was done, they could once again drive, because now satan had to carry the wagon axle on his shoulder.

When they arrived at the rectory which is placed in As Vig outside Juelsminde the driver was told to drive the wagon into the water at the beach. The water here immediately started boiling – a clear sign of who it was walking with the wagon axle.
