The Church of Testrup and its surroundings is a place of exciting and interesting history. Until 1748 a hospital church was situated here. Today only the chancel and a single piece of the nave remain. It now works as a parish church for the Parish of Testrup. The hospital ruins can be seen by the church where information boards are available as well.
South of the church is Testrupgaard and east of here lie the ruins of a stone house called Testrup Monestary which is the ruins of a three-storey-building.
It has worked as an administration building for the hospital and as the residence for the Bishop when he visited the place.
Also several kings have stopped in Testrup and stayed in Testrup Monestary.
The legend says that there is a secret underground pathway from the monestary to the hospital by the church. In 1432 the Bishop of Viborg donated his manor Testrupgaard to the hospital church of Testrup and thus ensured the income and maintenance of the large church.
In the Middle Ages the manor, the church and the hospital were the setting of a busy crowd of clergymen, munks and friars, and people who went on pilgrimage to the church and the Sacred Spring of Saint Søren which lies about 800 yrds. north east of the church.
The Sacred Spring of Saint Søren is, like other of our sacred springs, part of our oldest cultural relics. Many a legend and colorful accounts are connected to their rising and reputation as healing springs.
About the Sacred Spring of Saint Søren is told that it has had lifegiving and healing powers against different types of illnesses. Besides, it has been an essential source of income to the church and hospital of Testrup.
Today the spring does not contain much water, but if you suffer from some illness, you may want to try the healing effect of the spring. One never knows!
