An island break on your Interrail trip

Interrail isn’t just about train tracks, stations and big cities. It’s about the freedom to travel further afield, take detours and discover places you might otherwise have missed.

The train doesn’t run all the way to Langeland. However, the island is easy to include as part of your Interrail journey through Denmark. Take the train to Svendborg on Funen or Nakskov on Lolland and continue by bus, bike or ferry.

Here you can swap train platforms and city life for sea views, cycle routes, beach walks, local experiences and the tranquillity of the South Funen Archipelago. Langeland is ideal for those who want to stray a little from the classic Interrail route and experience a different side of Denmark.

Travel around the island by bus, hire a bike, go for a walk along the coast, sleep under the stars or use Langeland as a base for island-hopping in the South Funen Archipelago. Here, the pace is slower, the distances manageable, and nature close at hand – whether you’re travelling alone, with friends or as part of a longer trip through Europe.

Hiking and nature

Explore Langeland’s unique Ice Age landscape as part of the UNESCO Global Geopark South Funen Archipelago. Walk along the steep cliffs at Ristinge, or take a stroll through the lush forests at Skovsgaard Manor. With 297 kilometres of trails, there are endless opportunities to discover the island’s hidden gems.

Water activities

With 152 km of coastline, Langeland is the South Funen Archipelago’s hotspot for water activities. Here, the sea is always close by, and you can experience the island from the water in many ways. Try your hand at stand-up paddleboarding, hire a sea kayak, go kitesurfing at the excellent spots along the coast, or dive beneath the surface amongst shipwrecks and natural wonders. Langeland is ideal for both beginners and experienced water enthusiasts.
