Come and look at a stained glass window by Sven Havsteen Mikkelsen titled The Walk to Emmaus.
Asp Church - Struer
Asp Church is a charming medieval church dating back to around 1160, built in classic Romanesque style. At first glance, the building reveals a striking blend of historical atmosphere and modern artistic expression.
The distinctive choir area was restored in 1974 and given a clean, contemporary look. On the altar stands a simple cast iron crucifix created by artist Henning Wiinberg, while the colourful glass mosaic window in the eastern gable – titled Journey to Emmaus by Sven Havsteen Mikkelsen – catches the light and draws the eye to biblical reflections.
On the north wall of the nave hangs the central panel from the old altarpiece, depicting the crucifixion of Jesus – a powerful religious motif that still speaks to today’s visitors. The baptismal font, one of the church’s oldest features, stands prominently beneath the chancel arch, flanked by an elegant niche, both framed by carefully hewn ashlar stones.
In the tower hang two bells – one from 1988 and the other dating back to the 1600s – a touching meeting of past and present that marks the passage of time with each resonant chime.
