Dark Sky trip to Mandø

Here comes one of the tours in the Wadden Sea that is a little out of the ordinary, and we are looking forward to it.

You can experience Dark Sky tours, where you will experience several magical layers of being in the Wadden Sea and on Mandø, and with a driver on board, you can just sit back and take it all in.

Do you want to go out and have the special experience of the Wadden Sea from evening, to dusk to darkness, and immerse yourself in the starry sky and stories?

The tour lasts approx. 4 hours.

Departure by tractor bus from the parking lot at Okholmvej 5, 6760 Ribe.

The price is DKK 295 per person. Incl. transport, guides and teaching material.

There is the option to purchase a sandwich from Cafe Mandøpigen with local ingredients from the Wadden Sea area. The price for a sandwich is DKK 85, and you can choose between:

Program:

We start on the mainland, where we travel about 20,000 years back in time to the last ice age in Scandinavia, and from here we take the trip in a tractor bus out through the Wadden Sea to the tidal pearl of Mandø.

The light changes, the nature changes and moving around the Wadden Sea across this change and into the darkness can give us the feeling of completely losing the sense of time and place, and a very strong presence and sensory contact with the unique nature of the Wadden Sea.

On ​​Mandø we watch the sun set while your guide tells you about the island's history, and instructs you in navigating the starry sky based on the star charts you brought.

If the water level allows it, we move a little out towards Koresand, the 20 square kilometer sandbank.

When darkness falls, we go exploring the starry sky and your guide tells about the myths behind some of the constellations and celestial phenomena we find in the sky.

After that, the trip goes back through the Wadden Sea in the dark, and in the dark the mind can give us new sensations of moving across the seabed from the island and back to the mainland.

Practical information

We meet at the parking lot Okholmvej 5, 6760 Ribe, where your guide will be waiting at the bicycle parking.

As a group we drive to Mandø, the road is a gravel road and your guides know the tides, so it is safe to cross the seabed to Mandø and a completely unique experience.

On Mandø we park at the arrivals building on Midtvej 7, and from here we walk to the west side of the island, approx. 500 meters.

There is access to a toilet on the trip.

We walk a total of approx. 2 km on this trip.

Bring good footwear, an extra layer of clothing and clothing for the weather.

The entire trip has a duration of approx. 4 hours including transport to and from the island.
