Hundsemyre

Hundsemyre is one of Bornholm's largest peat bogs, covering an area of approximately 50 hectares.

During World War I, around 8,000 tons of peat were cut, and during World War II, a full 50,000 tons, which is testament to the area's former importance as a resource area. Today, the bog is an important nature and habitat.

The bog is one of the island's best bird locations and serves as a breeding and resting area for many species, including ducks, waders and birds of prey. During the bird breeding season from March 15 to July 15, all access is prohibited to protect the wildlife.

South of the bog is a bird tower with information boards, from where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the area and experience bird life from a distance.

Hundsemyre is protected to preserve the open water surfaces, reed forest, meadows, scrub and woodland areas, which together form a valuable and varied habitat for both plants and animals.
