KUNST caféen Thy
The idea behind KUNST Café Thy came about after we, Peter and Søren, sold our company Café Baghuset in Thisted, which we founded as entrepreneurs in 2008. After 17 years as restaurateurs, the time had come to try something new. We both have a strong interest in art and arts and crafts, and many visits to galleries around the country sparked the desire to open our own gallery in Thy. For us, it is important that what we present is something we can truly stand behind – both in terms of craftsmanship and artistic quality.

We both have a strong interest in art and arts and crafts, and many visits to galleries around the country sparked the desire to open our own gallery in Thy. Gallery:
The gallery will present several artists – both local artists from Thy and national artists from across the country. You can experience paintings, lithographs, ceramics, arts and crafts, and more. The artists will be changed on an ongoing basis, helping to create a vibrant and dynamic gallery.
Café:
A small café will be set up where light lunch dishes, coffee and cake, as well as beverages, can be purchased. In a smaller room, ideal for small gatherings, it will be possible to host meetings, courses, and similar events.
Shop:
In our small shop, we will sell decorative items, quality second-hand goods, books, and bric-a-brac – all carefully selected according to our taste.
Creativity:
We would like to collaborate with various craftspeople on working studios, where visitors can see how the art is created and perhaps also try their hand at different art forms themselves.
Local:
The reason we have chosen Hurup Thy as the location for KUNST Café Thy is that we see great potential in a small, cozy town close to the beautiful “Thy” nature, with the North Sea 13 km to the west and the Limfjord by the charming town of Doverodde just 6 km to the east. In August 2025, a branch of the beautiful and well-visited National Gallery of Denmark, as well as Naturlandsbyen, opened here. Thy is widely known for its stunning nature and water sports, but art and culture are also gaining strong ground: Museum Thy with its many different departments, the many local artists – within both music and crafts – as well as local food producers, all help put Thy on the map, representing all the great values we stand for. For us, it therefore feels natural that the gallery should be located right here.
