Hans Christian Andersen’s House in Odense isn’t your typical museum. It’s a beautifully designed, immersive experience that invites you to step inside the creative mind of Denmark’s most famous writer. Here, storytelling isn’t something you just read – it’s something you feel.

Designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, the museum blends architecture, nature and narrative into a cohesive journey. The building flows between indoor and outdoor spaces, guiding you through rooms filled with light, sound, and stunning visual installations. Whether you’re a long-time admirer of Andersen’s stories or just discovering them, you’ll find something to engage your imagination here. The audio guide is available in four languages: Danish, English, German and Ukrainian.

Young visitors will love Ville Vau – a playful world designed just for kids. They can dress up, explore fairy-tale settings, and let their creativity run wild in an interactive, child-friendly space. It’s a perfect place for families to experience Andersen’s magic together – in a way that feels fresh and fun.

The museum also features a café and shop, ideal for a relaxing break or a charming souvenir. Accessibility is a top priority, with full access for visitors with reduced mobility. Everything is designed to let you explore the world of Hans Christian Andersen at your own pace.

How to get here:

The museum is just a 10-minute walk from Odense Train Station, and several local buses stop nearby. Public transport makes it easy to visit – even for a spontaneous day trip. If you're arriving by car, you can park at Q-Park Odense City. The nearest entrance is Entrance 15.
