Take a bike or hike for your holiday on Hærvejen.
Experience the Danish nature and history on a 500 kilometer long route from Hirtshals in the north to Padborg in the south. Get exciting historical experiences and enjoy the many wonderful nature experiences in the woods and on the beach. Overnight at one of the cozy little hostels and shelters along the way or visit the hostels and campsites.
The highway starts in Hirtshals City Center on „Den grønne plads“and runs along the west coast onto Stenbjerg, past Hirtshals Lighthouse and Bunkermuseet Hirtshals 10 batteri. The route continues towards Tornby Klitplantage, where it is possible to stay in shelters. In the shelter area there is a fire place with barbecue grill, firewood and drinking water. Ca. 1 km. From Hærvejen, towards Tornby Centrum, lies a small old grocery store (Tornby Gl.købmandsgaard) where there are smells of freshly ground coffee, casserole, cheese and soap, and selling the specialties of the region.
South of Tornby Gl. købmandsgaard, approx. 300 meters from there, is Denmark's northernmost Stendysse. The grave was built in the conspiracy age for about 4000 years ago. On the outskirts of Tornby is Tornby Church, where a rune entry in the choir provides a possible dating to about 1200.
From Tornby, the route continues along the coast past Kærsgård Strand and Nørlev Strand, both of which are known for their white, wide, sandy beaches with good bathing conditions
From Nørlev to Skallerup and from Lønstrup via Harrerenden, the old stone-earl Lien is visible. The 30 meter high slope is intersected by several gaps, formed by rainwater for centuries.
Lønstrup also sees the signalmasten, which today is a landmark of the city. Close to Lønstrup you can see the medieval Mårup Kirke as well as the impressive vandalism Rubjerg Knude.
Rubjerg new church is built by the materials of the old church. At Strandfogedgården is it possible to stay for a night or two.
From Lønstrup, Hærvejen passes by Nørre Lyngby, which was originally a small fishing community, but today is characterized by cottage settlement. Here you can experience the much-featured cottages that fall on the beach as a result of the sea's rocks in the cliff. From Nørre Lyngby towards the country lies Børglum Kloster.
The well-preserved and restored monastery has a rich history and is definitely worth a visit.
South of Børglum and down to Løkken-Brønderslevvejen, Hærvejen comes past the Bomhuset. Earlier people paid to be allowed to cross the long, flat road towards Vrensted.
The tours are designed to get past most of the sights along Hærvejen.
