Three old friends find their friendship severely tested when one of them buys an all-white painting for €200,000. Three white lines can just about be made out across the canvas.
Serge is convinced he has bought a brilliant masterpiece. Mark thinks it is a ridiculous piece of shit. And Yvan thinks they should all just go back to being good friends.
The white painting unleashes a torrent of suppressed conflicts, long-buried truths and remarks that go a little too far. The friends’ relationship will never be the same again.
The comedy-drama Art was French playwright Yasmina Reza’s major breakthrough. Following its world premiere in Paris, the play ran for years in the West End and on Broadway.
