Children’s Courtyard

What was life like for a child in Odense in the 1890s? At Børnenes Baggård at TID, children and adults can step into a historic courtyard where everything is designed to be touched and explored. Through play, visitors can experience what everyday life might have been like for a carpenter and his family.

Step back into 1890s Odense

Børnenes Baggård recreates a cobbled courtyard, with the carpenter’s workshop on the ground floor and the family’s living quarters upstairs. The entire setting is designed for hands-on play, inviting children to explore and imagine life in Odense more than a century ago.

Draw water from the hand pump, dress up for a tea party or become an apprentice in the carpenter’s workshop. And when it is time for a break, children can even curl up in the family’s bed.

Visit Børnenes Baggård at TID

Børnenes Baggård is part of TID – Museum for Odense, making it easy to combine the experience with the museum’s other exhibitions on the history of Odense and Funen. Several of the exhibitions offer opportunities for children to learn through play. The museum recommends allowing between 90 minutes and two hours for a visit.
