Elmely Kro combines tradition and a welcoming atmosphere with a kitchen that celebrates the classic Danish lunch table and serves traditional Danish inn cuisine with a modern twist. The atmosphere is relaxed, with the food taking centre stage – unpretentious, but prepared with a genuine love of good food.

For lunch, you can enjoy traditional Danish open sandwiches or the Elmely Platter, while dinner features modern interpretations of classic Danish inn dishes. Ingredients are carefully selected, and the kitchen has strong local roots.

History and development

The buildings at Elmely Kro date back to the 18th century and were originally part of a tenant farm belonging to Løvenborg Estate. In 1908, the property passed into private ownership and operated as a smallholding until 1963, when it was converted into a roadside inn. Since 2023, Elmely Kro has been run together with the nearby Skoemagerkro.

The elm tree – a symbol of the inn

Elmely Kro takes its name from a large elm tree that once stood by Holbæk Landevej. Architect and professor Kaj Gottlob was a regular guest and designed the inn’s logo featuring the distinctive tree, which has since become its trademark. Following the effects of Dutch elm disease, a new tree has now been planted as a symbol of the inn’s continued growth.
