Overnight stay with the fjord as your neighbour

Herslev Strand shelter and tent site is located on a public green area just around 100 metres from Roskilde Fjord and right next to Herslev Harbour. The site is easy to access whether you arrive on foot, by bike via the Fjord Trail, by car, or from the water by canoe or kayak. Its open location offers views of the fjord and short distances to the beach, bathing jetty and harbour environment. There is plenty of space here for both tranquillity and shared outdoor experiences.

Shelter, tent site and facilities

The site features one shelter with sleeping space for 4–5 people, and there is also the option to pitch a tent beside it. A campfire site is available, and firewood is provided for free use once a week. A water tap is accessible from early April to late October, and a toilet located at the harbour can be used all year round. The combination of simple facilities and a scenic setting makes the site ideal for both short stops and longer stays.

Access and booking

The shelter and tent site is located at Herslev Strandvej 10, 4000 Roskilde, with a large parking area right next to the site. For groups of fewer than 10 people, the first come, first served principle applies, and advance booking is not possible. Groups of more than 10 people must book the site free of charge via Lejre Municipality’s self-service system. This helps ensure considerate use of the area and continued access for everyone.

Walking and cycling routes and fjord life

Herslev Strand is a natural meeting point for active experiences, where trails, cycle routes and the fjord come together right by the shelter and tent site. It is easy to combine an overnight stay with activity on land and life on the water.

Walking and cycling routes close to the site:

  • Fjordstien (The Fjord Trail), Regional Route 40, for both cyclists and walkers, passes directly by the site.
  • Skjoldungestien (The Skjoldung Trails), hiking routes, with a circular route passing directly by Herslev Strand.
  • Panoramaruten (The Panorama Route), Cycle Route 430, offering views across the fjord and landscape.
  • Munkevejen (The Monks’ Way), Cycle Route 88, connecting historic routes across Zealand.

  • Sailing from Herslev Strand Sailing Club, which offers guest berths and is part of the Free Harbour Scheme.
  • Swimming at a Blue Flag beach with bathing jetty.
