Ølby Church - Struer

Ølby Church is a granite ashlar church dating back to around the year 1200, beautifully situated near the protected wetland of Kilen. The church is named after Saint Nicholas – the patron saint of sailors – symbolizing a deep connection between faith and the maritime landscape.

In the Middle Ages, people sought protection and hope from Saint Nicholas, and Ølby Church stands today as a historical testament to the region’s spiritual and seafaring heritage. Here, silence and grandeur meet – offering a vivid link between nature and history.

The tower was added in 1905. After a fire in the chancel in 1911, the altarpiece was created. Inside the church, a plaque lists the names of parish priests dating back to the Reformation. The church was restored in 1971.
