Climb into the history of Olsker Round Church

At 28 meters tall, Olsker Round Church is the tallest of Bornholm’s four round churches. Built around 1150, the church has since been rebuilt and reinforced – but traces of its past are still clearly visible.

Climb the narrow staircase through the church and discover how the building was also designed with defense in mind. At the top, the thick walls and nine arrow slits tell of a time when the church was not only a place of worship but could also offer protection in troubled times.

The upper section of the wall originally formed part of the parapet surrounding the church’s then-flat roof. The church has changed its appearance several times since, most recently during a major renovation in the mid-20th century.
