The highest church on Bornholm

Ruts Church is located in the parish of Rutsker and is the highest situated church on the island. Its elevated position offers a peaceful setting and wide views of the surrounding landscape.

A Romanesque medieval church

The church was built around the year 1200 in Romanesque style and reflects the simple and solid architecture of the medieval period.

A distinctive bell tower

One of the church’s most notable features is the detached bell tower, which is integrated into the churchyard wall. This is a characteristic feature of several churches on Bornholm.

Historical details

Inside the chancel, you can find a lamp originating from Hammershus, linking the church to the island’s history. The Danish national hero Povl Anker also served as a priest here, adding further historical significance.
