A hidden retreat by the fjord

The shelter at Hammer Bakke is peacefully located in a small woodland south of the road to the ferry terminal to Orø, surrounded by green surroundings and just a short walk from the water and the calm fjord. There is one shelter with space for 6–8 people as well as a barbecue area, allowing you to cook over an open fire and enjoy the evening in nature.

Water can conveniently be collected on the opposite side of the road by the sailing club’s buildings, but remember to bring your own charcoal or collect firewood from the forest floor for the fire. The experience here is free of charge, and the site is used on a “first come, first served” basis – there is no booking, so arrive early to secure a spot.

Silence, woodland and close to the ferry

The location of the shelter makes it an ideal place to set up camp for hikers, cyclists and nature lovers alike. Parking and ferry connections are just a few steps away, making it easy to combine your overnight stay with a trip on the fjord. The shelter is located just a few hundred metres before the ferry terminal to the island of Orø, where you can watch kayaks, sailing boats and ferries glide past in the early morning light. The area around the site is characterised by green grass, woodland paths and a beach – perfect for a morning dip or a quiet moment with views over the water.

Advice for your stay

When using the shelter at Hammer Bakke, there are a few important things to remember: bring your own cooking equipment and firewood, and make sure the fire is completely extinguished before leaving the site. There are no formal facilities such as toilets, so plan your trip accordingly. It is a primitive but very charming place – ideal for a spontaneous overnight stay in nature without too many people.
