Sillebro Ådal
Sillebro Ådal is a green nature and recreation area close to Frederikssund, where trails lead through a rolling landscape of river, lakes and wetlands. Visitors can enjoy walking, fishing, swimming and outdoor activities, while the river valley also tells the story of climate adaptation and nature restoration.
Nature, trails and outdoor activities in Sillebro Ådal
Sillebro Ådal stretches for approximately 1.8 kilometres and covers an area of around 90 hectares. The river valley forms a green corridor into Frederikssund and contains several protected natural habitats. Trails through the area allow visitors to explore the varied landscape on foot or as part of the regional trail network.
Experiences in the rolling landscape
In Sillebro Ådal, you can fish, swim, barbecue and stay overnight in shelters. The rolling terrain adds variety to the walk, while Sillebro Å runs low through the landscape in several places. The area includes lakes, wetlands and distinctive plant species.
Tvebjerg is home to rare vegetation, including branched St Bernard’s-lily and wood clover. The combination of trails, nature and outdoor activities makes the river valley an ideal destination for an excursion close to the town.
A river valley with traces of the past
The area around Sillebro Å has been used by people for thousands of years. Traces of settlements from the Mesolithic period have been found here, along with shell middens beside the river and Bronze Age burial mounds on the northern side of the valley.
Throughout history, Sillebro Å has also supplied fresh water to the nearby village of Udesundby and formed a boundary between several of the area’s historic villages.
