A late medieval church on Djursland
Tirstrup Church was built in 1465 using monk bricks. The church has five vaulted bays, a three-sided apse to the east and a striking tower on stilts with a pyramidal roof.
Medieval furnishings
The altarpiece, dating from the early 16th century, is attributed to Claus Berg’s workshop. The church also houses a pulpit and a baptismal font in Gotland limestone, as well as a crucifix from the 15th century.
Traces of the Rosenkrantz family
The church is closely linked to the Rosenkrantz family and the manor house Bjørnholm, now known as Høgholm. Coats of arms, tombstones and memorials tell the story of the families who have shaped the church’s history.
