Clinker boatbuilding is UNESCO cultural heritage, and Lillebælt Shipyard still builds boats using the old tradition.

The history of Lillebælt Shipyard – and the preservation of a piece of coastal culture.

Lillebælt Shipyard in Middelfart was saved in 1997 when Lillebælt Smakkelaug and Middelfart Museum founded an association to preserve the historic boatyard. Founded over 140 years ago, the shipyard originally built fishing cutters and small boats, and later became known for wooden boat repairs. Today, volunteers run the shipyard, keeping traditional craftsmanship and maritime heritage alive – a historic and vibrant shipyard by the Little Belt.
